Rosanna Leo talks about her twin shifters in Predator's Trinity

Guest Post from Rosanna Leo
for Liza O’Connor
“Oh, Brother”
Many thanks to Liza for hosting me as I embark on the blog tour for Predator’s Trinity, Gemini  Island Shifters 6.

My latest paranormal romance is arguably the most racy I’ve ever written, for a couple of reasons. It features my first menage relationship ever. And, um, well, twin brothers.

For those of you who haven’t read a romance featuring a brother menage, I apologize in advance for possibly making you gasp in horror. For those of you who have read this subgenre, you’re welcome. (*smiles*)

I know, it sounds titillating and scandalous. To be perfectly honest, I never thought I’d write this book but it demanded to be written. I recall the first brother romances I ever read, the Colter brothers series by Maya Banks. At first, I was a little horrified, but incredibly curious. Now, like Ms. Banks’ works, my romance features no hanky panky between the brothers themselves…that’s a whole different genre and I do not indulge in it. Of course, they are in the same room together with their heroine. And it is their aim to please her as thoroughly as they can.

They do, by the way.
But it’s not just about the sex in these romances. There is a connection there that defies convention and calls to the characters with primal urgency. It helps that my characters are also paranormal.

They happen to be jaguar shifters. In a paranormal romance, we can suspend our disbelief a bit more, we can understand the characters seeking an outlet most humans would never consider.

My brothers, Percy and Byron Moon, have been through hell together, a torment that follows them in adulthood. It binds them in a way no one would comprehend and forces them to seek communion with the same woman. Add in the twin dynamic and the bonds run even deeper.

I’ve heard so many men fantasizing about being with twin sisters. Why shouldn’t romance readers enjoy this fantasy as well? I’ve been pleased to receive some amazing reviews on Predator’s Trinity so far and hope you enjoy it as well. Allow my sexy twins to shape your dreams tonight.

PREDATOR’S TRINITY
By Rosanna Leo

Librarian Suzan Marsh is an empath and has always felt assaulted by the feelings of others. She has had to distance herself from the people in her life, raising a mental barrier to ward off unwanted emotions. When wolf shifter August Crane abducts her, he breaks through the walls she constructed, forcing her to accept a frightening new truth.

Jaguar shifter twins Percy and Byron Moon are familiar with the evil ways of August Crane. Because of him, their childhood was destroyed. Because of him, their way of life at the peaceful Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort is threatened. And they won’t rest until he is dead.

When Crane drags Suzan into his cult and decides to make her his “concubine,” Percy and Byron know they must save the human woman. Their connection to her is strong and they cannot deny the dream they always held close. That they could share a woman and make her their mate.

But even after rescuing Suzan, none of them are free from Crane’s clutches. The wolf shifter has plans, ones that involve the demise of every shape shifter at the Ursa Resort. Not only must Percy and Byron keep Suzan safe, they must convince her to accept them both. In order to stop Crane from hurting everyone they love, they must learn to fight together.

After her shower, she toweled off and dressed in the clothes provided, choosing a pretty green V-neck T-shirt to accompany the jeans. Everything fit perfectly, from underwear to outerwear, as if the Moons had already known her. It boggled her mind, but she couldn’t lose the sensation they were connected by more than just circumstance. Her instincts never lied. After slipping into a pair of soft white socks, she made her way toward the kitchen.

She heard Byron and Percy before she saw them and stopped to catch an excited breath. When she heard what they said, she paused a moment longer.

“How’s your jaguar holding up?” Byron asked his brother.

She knew it was Byron. Despite them being identical twins, there were slight differences in their voices. Byron’s was the smoother voice. Percy’s had the odd touch of sexy gravel.

“My dumb cat,” replied Percy on a near growl, “was up all night long. He keeps pawing at me, trying to get to her.”

Her? As the burn of jealousy sizzled in Suzan’s gut, she gnawed on her bottom lip in a futile attempt to quell it. Maybe Percy had a girlfriend and he was dying to see her. Maybe he couldn’t wait to escape the cabin so he could meet up with this woman and, well, let his jaguar loose.

“Yeah,” Byron said. “My cat’s in agony, too. I think my ribs are black and blue inside, it pounds them so much.”

Oh, great. She wasn’t sure why this information astounded her. Of course men like them would have girlfriends. Hell, they might have mates. She hadn’t bothered to ask, had she? She’d already heard the mate bond was a powerful thing, that it would drive any shifter to distraction, both sexually and emotionally. Why had she been na├»ve enough to think these men might be single? She knew enough to know the good ones were always taken.

She’d been so stupid to think they had a bond. Bullshit. Clearly, her empathic tendencies had let her down for the first time.

“I can’t believe how quickly my jag … recognized Suzi,” said Percy.

Oh. Last she heard, she was the only Suzi around here.

Byron grunted. “I feel the same way. I’ve never felt like this. My head’s not working properly. Fuck, I couldn’t even hold a bowl of eggs without losing it. Percy, we need to discuss things. Seriously.”

“I know.”

“If Suzi is the one we’re meant to share, we can’t afford to make any wrong moves, especially with Crane in the picture. We need to support her and not let our egos get in the way.”

“Agreed.”

If Suzi is the one we’re meant to share…
Holy hell.

Liza reviews Kaleidoscope of Hopes

Today, I've kidnapped Kaleidoscope of Hope so I can review it.

Kaleidoscope of Hopes

by Devika Fernando

High hopes mean big disappointments. Nadia has learned that lesson the hard way. Single, struggling to make ends meet, and hurt by the past, the last thing she needs is another complication. When her new boss – a handsome, secretive widower with a child – moves in next door, their worlds collide. Sweet hopes bloom again, but both of them are burdened by tragic secrets. Should she give love a second chance?

“What about you, Nadia? Are you afraid of love?”

She stole a glance at Lucas, saw the intensity in his eyes, and anchored herself safely to the innocent white beads of the bracelet on her arm again. What a question to ask. She should refuse to answer. It wasn’t proper of him to expect one. But why did a part of her want to take this conversation further? What was in it for her?

“I am,” she whispered, realizing only after she had spoken that it was the plain truth and one of the main reasons for her unhappiness.

“Why?”

Did she imagine it or was his voice soft as a caress?

She took a deep breath and let the words tumble out in a rush with the exhalation.

“Because I mistook infatuation and careless affection mixed with ulterior motives for love once, and got burned. Because I haven’t given it a chance ever since. Most of all, because I still want it and long for it, and am sure I’ll never have it.”

“You don’t strike me as somebody who’s unlovable. Quite the contrary. You should give it a chance.”

I loved the way this story kept stepping back in time, revealing more and more of Nadia’s past. Turns out she’s far more than what she initially appears to be.

Then there is Lucas, so shut off from everything in his life except for his business, which he excels at. While we see occasional glimpses into his emotions, they aren’t always good, but the more I got to know him, the more he improved.
And then there is his precious daughter, Melody. You’ll love her on sight.

Devika Fernando has a gift for revealing the tender, heartfelt, yet closely held emotions of her characters. In this case, Lucas almost loses everything when he presents his feelings as something less than true love.

If you are looking for lots of action, explicit sex, or high drama, this isn’t the book for you.

But if you enjoy a quiet book of heartfelt emotions and love, with a few surprises to keep matters interesting, then I strongly recommend Kaleidoscope of Hopes.

You will fall in love with all three of the main characters. I surely did.

I give this book a gentle, loving and tender fuzzy, five stars.

Daisy Banks brings us Christmas early.

Christmas Carols Blog Tour.

Thank you, Liza, for your kind offer to help me celebrate the release of my new book Christmas Carols, published by Liquid Silver Books on the 10th of August.

I know readers might think it a little odd to be thinking about Christmas in August but in Victorian England, where my story is set, people were used to starting their Christmas preparations early. In Christmas Carols the choir has been rehearsing for some time in readiness for a Christmas Concert.

One of the delights of Christmas is listening to and singing Christmas Carols and the carol The Holly and the Ivy appears in the story. Here is a link so you can listen to this lovely ancient carol.

When I was researching for the story I discovered the carol the Holly and the Ivy dates back a very long time. Holly and ivy were used for Yule decorations long before Christmas was introduced as a winter festival. Both plants were brought into the house during Yule to offer the promise of new growth to come and show not all things succumbed to the cold. The Romans used the plants to celebrate Saturnalia, a mid-winter celebration. Holly was considered sacred to the god Saturn. This feast was celebrated throughout the Roman world.

In Europe the Druids held Holly and Mistletoe as sacred and both plants were used in the rites of the midwinter solstice.

Although early Christianity changed many of the old ways, Holly and Ivy remained popular for decorating houses, even Mistletoe found its way into the indoors as a reminder of the gifts of the sun.

Henry VIII of England used the imagery of the Holly and Ivy resisting the worst the winter could throw at them in his love song, Green grows the Holly. The weather could batter them but they didn’t change their hue. His idea was he would prove the same, forever faithful to his lady. Nice song, shame about the rest of his story.

The carol we know as the Holly and the Ivy may well have roots in the ancient past where singing competitions were held in local communities as winter entertainments. This song is one which might well have been a male versus female song, sung by opposing singers. Holly was associated as masculine, while the ivy was considered feminine.  Each set of singers would respond to the last verse of the opposition and the chorus may have been a joint effort. The male singers would praise the Holly while the female singers spoke of the strength of the Ivy.

Sadly, much of this idea is supposition, as we simply don’t know and the tune the words were sung to. I am certain it would have been different to the one we are familiar with today.

The carol in its current format appeared in a broadside publication dated 1710, which is the first written example of it. In the nineteenth century, it appeared in a collection of carols edited by Joshua Sylvester, and its popularity among Victorian choristers grew.

With such an interesting history to it I have to say this is one of my favorite Christmas Carols and I enjoyed using it in the story. You will see from the excerpt below Alice found deciding to sing it a difficult experience.

“Mrs. Broadbrace?”
“Yes.”
“Where do you sing, ma’am?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Sing? You know, lift your voice to the glorious accompaniment of music. You must
be a member of a choir or choral group?”
“No, sir. I no longer sing, except with the congregation on Sunday. It’s not seemly for a widow to sing.”
“I disagree. You know we have a choir here?”
“Yes, of course I know.”
“They meet at six each Thursday evening. That is tonight. You would be welcome among them I am sure.”
He stood with his head cocked to one side, as she’d often seen him. “I don’t think it would be right, Mr. Grafton.”
“I shall be considered presumptive but I wish to ask, how long have you been widowed, Mrs. Broadbrace?”
“Three and a half years. Why do you ask?”
“That’s long enough for such deep grieving in my opinion. More smacks of self-indulgence. I’ll introduce you to the choir this evening.” He turned about and closed the door behind him.
Self-indulgence! She stamped her foot. His lack of manners left her light headed. No flowers in the displays and now this? He was an unfeeling brute. The man might be a gifted organist but he had no finer qualities. She’d never met a man so ungentlemanly in his address. She’d go home immediately. Once home, when she’d recovered her composure, she would write to Mr. Francis and inform him personal circumstances left her no choice but to give up her activities here. She shoved the door open and strode into the nave with her head high, intending to collect her things.
Mr. Grafton sat on the front pew, his legs crossed, and one well-polished shoe on top of the other. He rested a hand on his dog’s head. “Mrs. Broadbrace, are you going somewhere?”
“Yes, home,” she snapped.
“I’d thought better of you than that.” He angled his head further and smiled.
A wave of sensation caught her. He didn’t look glad she’d said she was going. The smile beckoned her to stay. She struggled with the thought he may well think her over-sensitive, prim and old-maidish in her reaction. “I can’t join the choir, sir. It would not be proper. I have not an idea in my head for any possible floral design that does not incorporate flowers. I need to go home.”
“The vicar informed me Mr. Broadbrace died from injuries sustained in battle. If so, your late husband was a brave man who gave his life for his country. Yes?”
She swallowed hard and whispered, “Yes.”
“Then he’d not have relished a cowardly wife.”
“Oh!”
“Hear me out, madam.”
“No, I’ll not allow you to insult me further.”
He rose, turned and stepped forward, closer, all the time grasping the back of the pew. “I do not wish to insult you. I think you should find your courage. Life is a short affair and you will live it bitterly if you do not. Would being part of the choir so distress your sensibilities? Why not try just until the Christmas season is over?”
Thankful he’d not see her expression, she gaped.
“Well? There are six weeks until Christmas. The choir will sing during the Advent services, during the service on Christmas Eve and again on Christmas Day. You could be
part of the community’s preparations for the birth of the Christ child. What do you think of making the attempt?”
She couldn’t articulate all the reasons why she believed to do as he asked would flout propriety and scandalize people. “What would everyone say?”
“Ah, now I understand. Let me ask you, would you like a cup of tea?”

Christmas Carols

Daisy Banks

Stephen Grafton, the blind organist at Holy Trinity Church, is gaining a reputation for his fine playing and compositions. Alice Broadbrace’s initial venture back into society after years in deep mourning brings her to the notice of the talented organist, and he offers her the opportunity to sing a solo carol to his accompaniment. His courage convinces her to find her own, while her charm entices him into thoughts of romance. A difficult walk in a snow storm is only the beginning of Stephen and Alice’s journey to happiness. Enjoy this sweet Victorian tale of talent and love blossoming.
