My Review
The
book begins with Miss Eugenie Villaret trying to save the native children on
St. Thomas Island, where she lives.
In
England William, the Viscount Wivenly, is trying to save himself from being
snared into marriage by one of the many young ladies pursuing him.
After a close call, Will
escapes the country, and heads off to St. Thomas to check on a
distant relative who has sent his father a dire letter that conflicts with the
letter received from the manager of the shipping business. In truth, Will just
wants to escape being hunted.
Upon arriving on the island
he meets a young woman whom he assumes is a young widow, ripe for making his
mistress.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
Eugenie Villaret is an innocent young lady who spends her time trying to help
others and right the injustices of slavery which Danish rule allowed. She is connected to his family. (not blood related)
His misunderstanding result
in a passionate embrace and a bit more familiarity than allowed with a young
miss. Upon discovering she is not only an unmarried young woman, but a distant
relative to his family through marriage, he declares they will marry. The irony
that he sailed halfway around the world to be caught in marriage does not escape
him. Determined not to be collared like
his other friends, he intends theirs will be a union of convenience.
Eugenie is not of the same
mind. It was only a kiss and fondle in a dark alley. No one saw what he did.
She sees no reason she must marry such an ungentlemanly fellow at all.
And thus begins the initial ebbs and flows of a delightful romance. Poor Will has a talent for saying the wrong
thing. With every foot he digs himself out of trouble, his mouth causes
him to fall right back in it.
Eugenie is having none of his bad behavior. He will court her properly, or she will not marry him.
Eugenie is having none of his bad behavior. He will court her properly, or she will not marry him.
There is also an ominous danger
encircling Eugenie. A threat that slowly
reveals itself to the readers and Eugenie over time. A danger that could devastate the
budding romance between her and Will and ruin her life.
Between the charming romance
and the scheming plots afoot, you won’t be able to put this book down. So Plan
Accordingly!
Ella Quinn has done it again!
I give this book a Five Star.
