Just Desserts by Gail Koger

 By Gail Koger

Kaylee knew being a Coletti Warlord's mate wasn't going to be easy. Not only was Talree downright scary, he had a bossy streak a mile long and collected enemies like most men collected lovers. But while Kaylee's life might not be perfect, Talree truly loved her.

Flash forward nine months to a very pregnant, insanely hormonal and cranky as hell Kaylee. If the pregnancy wasn't enough to drive her crazy, Talree's enemies are tap dancing on her last nerve. The Shani Queen Mother, a psychotic alien with a bone to grind against Talree, decided she wanted the planet Tartum - a barren piece of crap loaded with Ditrum crystals, and part of the Coletti Empire. Her master plan? Kidnap Kaylee and hold her for ransom. If the Overlord refused to give the Queen Mother Tartum, she would feed Kaylee and her son to the Tai-Kok.

She thinks Kaylee will beg for mercy. Boy, is the alien bitch in for a surprise. She's about to meet a woman suffering from hormone overload and a serious lack of chocolate. The only one begging for mercy will be the Queen Mother.

Talree’s nimble fingers made short work of my shirt and bra. His hands roved over me with a wild hunger.

“Can’t we talk about this?” His sharp teeth scored my nipples, and I fought to squelch a whimper as he created an exquisite torment almost too much to bear.

In a low, guttural voice, Talree said, “Talk later.”

The fog of arousal intensified. Later? “But -”

Talree dropped his shields, and I felt his beast. Its horrific rage beat at me. It was so hungry. Its need to kill was overwhelming. There would be no mercy. The beast would eat anything in its path. Including me.

“You are my anchor. Deny me, and I become an unstoppable monster.”

A cold fear lodged in my stomach. Talree was very close to breaking. The beast had to be defeated now, or it would travel back to Earth and do what the Tai-Kok hadn’t yet accomplished. Kill every living soul. I couldn’t let that happen. I was a Siren, and it was my job to protect Earth no matter what the cost. Talree was already embedded in my head, and I wasn’t sure
I could live without him. Talk about a rock and a hard place.

I took a deep breath and sealed my fate. “I accept your claim.”

A triumphant roar echoed around the cabin. Talree pushed me to the floor and ravished my mouth with hot kisses.

My brain turned to mush, and my body caught fire. I couldn’t get enough of the way he felt. His muscles rippled and bunched beneath my touch. The brush of his lips was dangerously erotic as he branded every inch of my skin.

“I will kill anyone who tries to take you from me,” Talree rumbled in my head.

Yikes. “Easy, big guy. I’m not going anywhere.” Hopefully, it was the beast talking. Time to get the show on the road before it broke loose. Since my only sexual experience was some heavy petting in the backseat of a car, I went with what I had read in romance novels.

I trailed my fingers down his stomach and felt a slit in his abdomen. Well , that was kind of freaky. I twisted around for a better look, and my eyes bugged when I saw his man-part slide out. That gargantuan monster was never going to fit, and holy hell! “Ah, excuse me, but are those tentacles?”

I won’t freak out. I won’t freak out. Running suddenly seemed like a really good idea, if I wasn’t pinned down by three hundred pounds of pure muscle.“You, um, come equipped with your own sex toy?”

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. Next up in the Coletti Warlord series is Wulf and the Bounty Hunter

Forbidden Things: Dissident by Nikki McCormack

Today, I have Nikki McCormack on my site with what looks to be a most interesting book. I can't wait to read it!

Peep Rep: Can I read it too?

Liza: Peeps, I haven't seen you forever! Where have you been?

Peep Rep: (shrugs) I got promoted.

Liza: That's great. What do you do now?

Peep Rep: Nothing. Turns out they just wanted my name so they could claim to represent the peeps. So I quit. Can I come back here?

Liza: Of course you can. The book we have today, Forbidden Things: Dissident sounds really good. Would you like to read it first?

Peep Rep: Yes, please.  They didn't allow me to read books at work and I love books.

Liza: Yes, I remember. You love books and money. And guess what? There's a $50 gift card for one lucky commenter.

Peep Rep: Oh, I love this job! I'll never run off again. I promise.

Liza: And I'll try not to threaten to fire you on every post. Now let's focus on this enticing book.

Peep Rep: Yes, let's do! Oh I love the glowing tattoo. Can I get one?

Liza: Why don't we just admire this one...

Forbidden Things:  Book One - Dissident
by Nikki McCormack

Ascard power can strengthen, heal and create. It also has great potential to destroy, enough to topple entire governments. Indigo’s country places strict limitations on the use of ascard so she must channel her talents into the healing arts or risk severe punishment. An orphan from a disgraced family, trapped by her father’s treason, Indigo struggles to reclaim her place in a society that has driven her into an abusive engagement.

Then a mysterious stranger from a neighboring country contacts her using ascard. He needs help escaping his prison so he can bring an end to his emperor's oppressive rule or die trying. His unshakable devotion to his cause and the passion hidden behind his cool arrogance move her to help him at the risk of being branded a traitor herself.

When the politics of society bring them together a second time, Indigo decides to use her growing powers to help him fight his war. If only she dared fight for her own future with such passion. Perhaps she can find the courage to do so by helping the man she has fallen for win his revolution. She might have exactly the power he needs to succeed.

Indigo stared at the place Eldrian had been seconds ago. With him there, even the beasts couldn’t drive her away. With him gone, icy fingers of dread crept up her spine. She wanted to be anywhere else. In scant seconds, everything changed and all she had left of him were memories and a pair of boots.

Looking at the oversized boots, she grinned. Though she barely knew him, something about him fit her. His arms felt like home more than any place she had ever been. Jayce would be a poor substitute for this exotic man who made her feel so wanted and alive. Such was the price she would pay for her father’s treason.

She stepped closer to the pillars, pulse racing, but the shimmer was gone. He was gone and she couldn’t follow. In that instant, she would abandon everything to go after him. Placing a hand on either side of one pillar, she closed her eyes and pressed her forehead against rough gray stone. If only…

The sound of movement behind her shattered her musings like so much fragile glass. Her heart bounded into her throat. She spun. A hound ambled into the canyon. She looked into its sightless eyes and recognized death in them.

The Good: The book is well written and compels you to keep reading to the very end. The characters are interesting, the plot well-constructed, and if you love battles, you’ll be in catnip heaven.

The Confusing: The book has a large cast of characters with odd names. For me, this caused confusion at the first as I constantly pondered who a person was. However, before I was halfway through, I had the characters sorted out.

The Not for me: While there are some very fine romantic scenes between Indigo and Yiloch, there are far more battle scenes.  Sadly, I don’t like battles, especially if nice people die, which happens in this story. But I will say the battle scenes were very well conceived and written, both in clarity of events and in progressing the story.

There’s also betrayals galore, powers that can kill, and marriages that should never be, while others cannot be. In other words, for a 'fantasy' it’s highly complicated and reads like a real world.

So, I’m left with a quandary. Do I judge it on what I wanted it to be or judge it for what it is.

Fairness to the author says I should judge it on what it is.  Thus, I give it 5 stars for being a well written book, but then petulant Liza deducts .5 points for killing off someone I liked, and not giving me the HEA I wanted.

However, since Amazon doesn’t accept half points, I’ll round it back up to 5.0 which is what it technically deserves.

Oh and if any movie producers are reading my blog today, this would make a really great movie, but please red shirt those about to die!

Nikki started writing her first novel at the age of 12 (which is still tucked away in a briefcase in her office). Despite a successful short story publication with Cricket Magazine in 2007, she treated her writing addiction as a hobby until a drop in the economy left her with an abundance of free time to focus on making it her career.

Nikki lives in the magnificent Pacific Northwest tending to her awesome husband, two sweet horses, three manipulative cats, and a crazy dog. She’s a wine and tea fanatic who loves sitting on the ocean in her kayak surrounded by open water or hanging from a rope in a cave, embraced by darkness and the sound of dripping water. She also enjoys horseback riding, archery, PC gaming, dancing, good anime, etc. She studies Japanese and practices Iaido because she believes we should never stop learning.

Sexy to Go series boxed set Volume 6

Sexy to Go series boxed sets
By Eva Lefoy

Today is July 19th and that can only mean I’m gearing up for another boxed set release. You see, along with almost a dozen other authors who are obviously as cracked in the head as I am, I’m releasing a boxed set per month.  Is it difficult herding cats? It can be at times! But what’s even more difficult is getting the word out about all the different and great things we have going on in this boxed set. So I came here today to talk a little about variety and give you the flavor of Sexy to Go.

So far in these boxed sets we’ve included the following genres + more:

Contemporary – M/F and M/M
Historical – Civil War, and Regency
Science Fiction Romance and Erotica
Paranormal Romance – Vampires and wolf shifters, psychics, leprechauns, ghosts
Romantic Suspense
GLBT & Lesbian
Naughty wives

See anything you like? Yes, there’s a good variety of stories in the boxed sets and there’s truly something for everyone. As an added bonus, I’m bringing you some excerpts from Volume 6, out now with a pretty nice cover.

Blurb: First Class by Jocelyn Dex
Shay is terrified to fly, but when a sexy-as-sin man sits next to her in first class, he provides a distraction that changes her outlook on flying and leaves her longing for more.

“You need a distraction,” Max said as he leaned closer to her.

Shay gave him a doubtful look. “Not much could distract me from imminent death.”

He chuckled. “Let’s put that to the test.”

After switching off the overhead light, his hand snaked under the jacket covering her lap and caressed her thigh seductively. The guy was unbelievable. Where the hell did he get that kind of confidence? She should push him away, slap him, or something, but it felt good. Too good and she wanted him baaad. If they weren’t on a plane, she’d jump him in a second.

Command Performance by Sorcha Mowbray
Can a billionaire playboy take charge of a headstrong ballerina or will she lead him a merry chase before dancing off into the sunset?

And then his mouth closed over hers, his lips warm and firm as his tongue surged past her teeth. She meant to bite him. But he slipped his hands around her waist and hauled her against his chest at the same time the heady taste of man and scotch invaded her senses. And when she inhaled through her nose, she sucked in a mind numbing mix of soap, fine Italian leather, and a spicy cologne designed to titillate instead of smother. Beyond the point of making a conscious decision, she realized her arms were wrapped around his neck when her knees turned as spongey as the toe of a worn out point shoe. One of his hands had shifted from her side to stroke her ribcage below her breast. A moment more and he would be able to mold his palm to her aching mound.

Dreamwalker: Dream Date by Pamela Moran
Dreamwalker Lee Jacobs needs answers to who shot him, to who wanted him dead. Can a dream date with sexy Dr. Brynn Keegan, a researcher at the Lucid Dream Center, help him find the answers? Or will that date only lead to murder?

“You wanted to know what I’d done to get myself shot.” Again with the half smile. “I have no answer for that one.”

“Where were you when you were shot?”

“Less than five miles from here.” He shook his head, then braced his hands on the back of the other wingback chair. “I live on the other side of the valley. As far as I can tell, I had no business in the area, none to speak of anyway. None that I remember.”

“You were here that afternoon.”

His eyes closed for a brief moment as his fingers dug into the material of the chair. “Do you know why?”

Daylight (48 Hours #3) by Sofia Grey
Joel is happily falling in love with his new boyfriend, Anton, so why is he attracted to Anton’s female roommate? He doesn’t do girls any more – especially not when he has everything he wants in Anton.

“You rescued me. That jerk wouldn’t take no for an answer, and I promised him one dance while I waited for my friends. You were amazing.” Kelly slid her arms around his neck, and hugged, her generous breasts pressed up against him. “Thank you, Joel.” The delicate kiss she pressed over his cheek took all the pain away, for a millisecond at least. Or maybe that was due to his cock rearing up and wanting to play.

Oh man, this was so wrong. Anton was his lover, and on the way to becoming his boyfriend, while Kelly was just a chick who shared Anton’s flat. Okay, Anton’s best friend. And part-time fuck buddy. But she was a chick, and Joel didn’t do girls any more. Shame his hard-on hadn’t gotten the message too.

On the Sly, Part 1 by Leigh Ellwood
It’s 1989, and somebody is attacking gay man in Archer Beach. Officer Jeremy Truman is determined to find the assailant, and protect Colin.

Colin’s voice cracked. “I’d heard the rumors about the attacks, but they weren’t happening every night. I didn’t think the man would actually go to Jackson Park, not with all this AIDS shit.”

“It’s scary, yes, but some people are creatures of habit, Colin.”

“Well, I’m in no hurry to get laid.” Colin looked as if he couldn’t decide to cry or scream. “After I read about the attack in the paper, I started lurking around there to find the Jumper. I…came close once.”

Tru felt the shock tear through his body. He sat up straighter. “Tell me everything.”

The great thing is, you never know for sure what’s coming in the next issue. Your very favorite new story might be just around the corner, so check us out.

Nikki Beliese shares her sexy novel: Wine & Whiskey

Today, I have Nikki Belaire on my site with her sexy novel, Wine & Whiskey.

Peep Rep: Tell me more!

Liza: Sure, let's meet the two main characters.

Nick DeMarco

A wealthy financier with alleged ties to organized crime. He's arrogant, stubborn, and obsessed with the quiet, gentle woman who may not be as delicate as she seems.

Shae Armstrong

A sheltered pop star living a life created by others. She's bold on stage, yet guarded when the lights fade.

Peep Rep: Oh that does sound good! And look at the cover! Gorgeous!

No longer controlled by her mother, manager, or former fiancé, pop star Shae Armstrong steps out on her own and into the path of Nick DeMarco, a wealthy investor with alleged ties to organized crime and real childhood scars to overcome. She wants to take it slow. He needs her now, in his life and in his bed.

Nick’s enemies threaten her career, her friendships, even her sanity, but not her heart - the one thing Nick holds precious. He proves his love is real, and she stops running. Until everything around them falls apart, including him. He swore he would never hurt her. Instead, he almost destroys them both.

Buoyed by her new-found confidence and strength his love instills in her, Shae makes a dangerous choice, sacrificing her happiness for his, just like he always does for her. Unable to let her break the connection between them, Nick accepts the trust she places in him, the depth of her love giving him the courage to try again.

Now that she’s found her own voice and helped him see who he really is, can Shae survive the challenges of living in Nick’s world?

When the jet begins its descent, Shae turns from the window and looks at him. “Now are you going to tell me where we are?”

Nick holds up his finger. “Patience. I said when we land.”

His breath catches as she rolls her eyes and laughs, soft and silky, warming him in the cool cabin. He didn’t think it was possible for her to be more beautiful than she already is. Her face flushes and eyes sparkle with excitement, matching the hint of glitter across her bare shoulders, completely exposed with her hair in loose curls behind her head. He would take a beating just to taste the soft, sweet skin at the base of her neck.

At the bump of the landing gear rolling across the runway she looks back at him again. “We’ve landed. Tell me!”

“We’re slightly northeast of wine country. I read an article in one of the business journals about a man from Indiana re-opening his grandfather’s winery. I thought we could check it out before he launches.”

“Oh, I love it. I can’t wait.”

Once the pilots open the door and disembark, Max and the two security men accompanying them file out. She starts to stand up, but he puts his hand on her arm. Loath to rouse any uncertainty, he attempts a casual tone. “Just a minute, sweetness. Let Max take care of things first.”

Two black SUVs sit on the tarmac with a young woman wearing a navy blazer standing next to them. Max talks to her as the other two men open the doors and inspect the interiors. A slight frown darkens Shae’s angelic face, and his stomach clenches at her anxiety.

“Is everything okay?”

“It’s just a precaution. I don’t want anything to ruin our day.”

Her lips curl into a smile and she squeezes his hand, releasing some of his tension. “Nothing will.”

After the inspection is complete, Max signs the woman’s clipboard and takes the keys from her. Nick pulls Shae up from her seat and leads her down the steps. “Let’s go.”

They drive along the countryside with Max and his team following behind. Tall trees border farm fields, separating them by owner or crop. A few stray clouds float above the distant mountains, no barrier to the abundant sunshine.

Resting her head against the seat, she turns to him. “How did you arrange for us to have such beautiful weather?”
“I’m good at charming angels.”

She laughs and shakes her head. “You’re still as slick as the day I met you.”

He brings her hand to his mouth and kisses each knuckle. Somehow, she saw past his arrogance and gave him a chance. And somehow, he’s lucky to earn more even when he fucks up. “You’re still as beautiful.”

“What am I going to do with you?”

“Love me.”

Nikki Belaire writes contemporary romantic thrillers and admits to a weakness for alpha males and bad boys, especially ones who can’t live without the strong women they love. She spends more time in her characters’ lives than her own. But, when she’s in the real world, her passions include reading, wine appreciating, running, and spending time with her husband and daughter.

The first book of Nikki’s Surviving Absolution series is Wine & Whiskey, which launched through Secret Cravings Publishing. Heat level: three flames

Melissa Keir talks dogs and her story Crash and Burn in Crashing into Love Boxset

Today I’ve finally allowed Grissom my dog and writing inspiration to share a little about the part he played in my latest novella- Crash and Burn in the book bundle- Crashing into Love.
Grissom has been my writing partner for the last year. He likes to lay next to me in bed with me while I write. Here’s a photo of him. Can you find Grissom among the covers?
Take it away Grissom…

Grissom: Thanks Mom. You know, readers, this story wouldn’t be here without me. I lay next to Melissa each night and help her write. She sometimes stops to ask me for help with her characters. In Crash and Burn, I told her to add a fun little dog to the manuscript. Hence, Gris was born. Yep…I made her name him after me. What other name would be as interesting?

In Crash and Burn, at the beginning of the story, the heroine Keira Matthews is a spoiled woman-child, much like Paris Hilton. Every Paris wannabe, must have a small purse pooch. While, I’m not a purse dog, I do enjoy being carried around, snuggling in the chair next to Melissa and begging for treats.

So I was the perfect inspiration for Gris. The furbaby in Crash and Burn is more heroic than I am though. He warns Keira about dangers, while I only warn mom about the UPS man. I swear that man is going to try getting my cookies.

Here’s a little excerpt showing off Gris’ courageous nature:
The sound of rushing water came from her left. Skirting through the trees, the thick forest gave way to a small clearing. The trees were broken and littered the ground.
Still unable to see the rushing water, she stepped carefully over a fallen tree. Ahead lay a pond. As if the water called to her, she set the dog down and scrambled around another tree. Her mouth felt dry and dusty. She wept at the sight of the water and dropped to her knees at the edge of the pond. Her spine tingled. She had a bad feeling about the area.
The flowers’ fragrance became the smell of jet fuel. The animals had fallen silent. Only the sound of distant running water remained. Remembering her husband’s words about fresh water found inland in spring-fed ponds, she ached to quench herself on the fluid in front of her.
She reached out with her cupped hand to scoop out liquid but paused at Gris’s deep-throated growl. His hair stood on end as he bared his teeth at the small pool. “Baby, what’s the matter? What do you see? Is it a snake?”
She whipped her head around, searching for the danger or animal. Yet, she couldn’t see anything other than the water. Licking her lips, she reached out once again. Gris’s growls turned to barks. Sharp, loud calls as he approached the pond.
She stretched her palm out toward her dog. “Here, boy. It’s okay.”
Something pale rose to the surface of the pond.
Startled, she jumped to her feet but fell backward on her butt.
See…Gris warned Keira. But she didn’t listen. Just like mom doesn’t always listen to me. Thankfully I have kisses for her, even when she’s very crabby. That happens about once a month. She spends a lot of time in the bathroom then too. Wonder why she’s always crabby?

Alright Grissom, you’ve shared enough. Thank you for telling all of Liza’s readers about your part in my book. Now to get back to writing my next book, let’s head off to bed for writing time.

Romance is one thing, getting there as a result of a crash landing...who knew?

About Melissa Keir:
For my wedding in Vegas, my books and computer came with me but there wasn't enough room for my wedding shoes. It’s all about priorities! As an avid reader, I was probably born with a book in hand. Luckily my mom was also an avid reader, so it was easy to "borrow" her books when my books were finished.
I was reading from an early age about dashing men on horseback riding to the rescue of strong willed and capable women who didn't really need rescuing. I came to expect that women in fairy tales should have fought their own battles. When I was older, I found Margaret Atwood and realized that women could re-tell history in their own way and I experimented with changing those basic fairy tales.
Fortunately for me, my husband allows me the opportunity to be myself (spend my salary on books) and still takes care of the really important things for me like killing spiders and opening jars. As an elementary teacher, teaching children about the many worlds inside of books is a gift that I’m lucky enough to do for a living. Teaching the next generation to love reading is a lot of fun! Reading the right book can make a new world come alive!
Currently living in the suburbs of Ann Arbor, Michigan with my darling husband, way-too-grown-up children and spoiled dogs, I enjoy getting away through a book to escape the harsh winters or summer road construction.

I’d love to hear from you!
