Blurb

Out-of-work violinist Erica Timberly decides enough is enough. She leaves her abusive boyfriend and flees the big city, but then her car breaks down in the middle of the night. Though wary of men, she accepts help from Dylan Haynes, a stranger driving by on the road, and soon recognizes him as the sexy former drummer of her favorite indie rock band. Maybe, just maybe, her run of bad luck is finally turning around.

Music teacher Dylan Haynes knows Erica is in trouble, and her black eye is only the first clue. The stubborn yet vulnerable woman needs a friend, but he’s determined to give her everything she deserves.

Will Erica listen to the music in her heart and trust Dylan, or will her past always threaten her future?

Excerpt

Erica leaned up and combed her fingers through her hair. “I’ve never made love outside before. It’s a surreal experience.”

“We can do it wherever you want. In an elevator, in an alley, in my car. I’m game anywhere and everywhere for as long as you want me.”

“I want you so much it hurts.”

Dylan thumbed her knuckles and hoped she meant that. “I don’t know how you feel about labels, but I haven’t had a girlfriend in years. I’ve just had flings, but I want more than that with you. I want us to be with each other and no one else. I want a relationship with you.”

Tears welled in her eyes. “I feel divided in two. A part of me thinks we’re moving too fast, but another part says to jump in with both feet. I want something real with you too. I don’t want to feel dirty after we fool around. Just make me happy. Will you do that, Dylan?”

Her soft, pain-filled words struck Dylan like a dagger in his gut, and he bit the insides of his cheeks to steady his features.

Her ex-boyfriend had probably called her names and degraded her after they would find release in each other’s body, and the bastard likely never cared if she reached climax at all.

“I understand, Erica. I promise to treat you with nothing but respect, and I will do my very best to make you happy. I swear you will always scream your head off in pleasure every time I touch you. I’m not the sort of man to get my jollies off and leave my girl hanging.”

Her lips twitched up in a grin. “That’s good to hear.”

“So are you my girl?”

“Yeah, I’m your girl.” Erica giggled and tapped her fingers on his chest. “How could I not be? You make a very compelling argument, but I will have to hold you to it. I’m definitely looking forward to screaming every time you touch me.”

“Let’s rest, and then we’ll play again. The night’s early, and I’ve only just begun.”

A Despicable Crime
(The Attempted Abduction of Xavier’s Mother)
A Painful Conclusion
The Improvement of Crime Lords
A Gift Returned

BLURB
Family contacts that Xavier Thorn has long ago hidden from his life suddenly return.  His beloved great-grandmother, which his father had declared dead when Xavier was six, turns out to be alive and annoyed that his father is stealing money from her bank account and the bank won’t stop him.

As matters escalate from theft to murder to a most despicable crime, Xavier learns more about his father who has hated him all his life and discovers some good news. However, first, he must secure his great-grandmother and his mother, since the connection between the two ladies and Xavier has become known to several Crime Lords. As the man responsible for keeping all Crime Lords in line, the two ladies are now in danger of becoming hostages.

It’s a hard month for Vic. Due to saying too much while teaching the Scotland Yard officers on how to stop forgeries, Vic believes she has lost Xavier’s love. Also, her crazy sister Claire burns down the house Claire lives in simply because it cannot be put into her name. Then she arrives at Xavier and Vic’s house with the intention of killing them all.
Family can be so difficult!

Excerpt
Xavier sat and listened to the old woman, seated on the other side of his desk, drone on and on. Honestly, he had no idea why she was here. Worse yet, she seemed to be telling her story backwards, or at least he suspected as much. Every time he took the effort to listen, she was talking about something that happened further in the past.

If she had been a man, he would have tossed her out long before now, but she was almost the spitting image of his great grandmother whom he had truly loved. Now that he gave the matter more thought, his great-grandmother often told him stories in reverse, insisting a person could learn more by going back.

“We all know where we are, but the past we know is often nothing but nonsense.” She would then give him a hard glare. “I expect better of you, young man. You are like me. We remember the truth, not some made up magpie, pretending to be a sparrow.”

Yes, this woman sounded a great deal like his dead great-grandmother. She also made statements that truly made no sense.

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved nicely. But all those bad behaviors has given her lots of fodder for her humorous books. Please buy these books, because otherwise, she’ll become grumpy and write troubled novels instead. They will likely traumatize you.

Toxic Diamonds @Liza0Connor The Adventures of Xavier & Vic

Late Victorian Era was both amazing and appalling.

As factories expanded in the cities, the poor headed to the cities, hoping for a job.
Soon the middle-class grew and began to expand.
As more people moved to the cities, the need for homes exceeded the homes available. Some unethical builders began building homes for the new middle-class without proper plumbing, allowing deadly gases to asphyxiate people in their sleep. In addition, there were toxins in the walls and floors that could kill them.
And for the poor, conditions became intolerable.

An entire family would often live, sleep, and eat in a single cramped room, with a tin tub for washing but no toilet or running water. They would have to use the pump outside for drinking water (which was frequently contaminated) and use the two-seater public outhouse somewhere in a two-block range to rid themselves of the runs.
There were also open sewers they could piss in—certainly couldn’t make it smell worse.
Cholera, Dysentery, and Toxins were killing people by the hundreds, but those in the country kept arriving, all the same. The cities were literally dying over its sewage issues.

Determining whom to trust is getting very hard, indeed. This may be the most trying cases imaginable. Director Stone has gone missing and it appears Ministers of Parliament are involved. Xavier is arrested and placed in a jail meant to kill him, while Vic, disguised as a woman, attempts to locate the Minister of External Affairs and ask for his help.
Everyone is called in to assist: Jacko, his wife Alice, their son Pete, Samson the Crime Lord, David and Claire, Tubs and his wife Sara, the boys: Cannon and Ham, plus the bloodhound Arroo.
The Wasp, who escaped punishment for her attempts to murder her bigamist husband’s first wife last year, is back.
Vic discovers love letters between Ben, their terrible male secretary, and the Wasp. Worse yet, he shared Xavier’s financial advice with the Wasp, making her and her husband very wealthy.
With Stone missing, and Barns and Meyers stretched to their limits, Vic decides it’s time to train more of the Scotland Yard officers in intuitive and deductive reasoning. While only half the class makes it through her two-day course, everyone is pleased with her results.
Finally, be warned: Vic’s sister, Claire, is becoming more difficult than ever. Gregory thinks she is going mad.

EXCERPT

“Bloody Hell!” Davy yelled.
Gregory headed to the carriage house with a severe reprimand on his tongue. While Davy had become far more prone to bursts of anger since they had hired a driver-in-training, bellowing curses at this early hour of the morning was unacceptable.
He lost his scold upon the sight of Davy, on his knees coughing.
When he approached Davy, the man waved him away.
“Stay back…poisonous gas…” Davy choked out before collapsing.
The air in the carriage house did smell bad and the horses kicked at their stall doors as if wishing to escape as well.
Gregory hurried back to the kitchen where he found most of his staff. He sought out Fagan and Casey. “Retrieve Davy and take the horses out back. Do this while holding your breath!  Now!”
Gregory knew that with a normal staff such instructions would have a myriad of follow up questions. But his staff was battle ready at all times. Thus, the inexplicable order to do these actions while holding their breath would be followed.
He hurried to his room and called Dr. Connors. “We have an emergency. There is a foul odor in Davy’s carriage and the air in the carriage has brought Davy to his knees. The horses are affected as well. I’ve sent the boys in with orders to extract Davy and the horses. Can you come?”
“Yes, of course,” Dr. Connors assured him. “I’m not yet dressed, but I will be there in short order.”
Gregory thanked him and returned to the carriage house. Both Davy and the horses were gone.
He hurried out the back door and found his three drivers sitting on the grass and the horses tethered to trees.
“Is everyone alright?”
Davy nodded and coughed. He then reached over and patted the back of Fagan. “He saved my life while Casey saved my Marybell.” He met the two young men’s eyes. “I know I’ve not been friendly with either of you, but that ends now. From now on, I’ll be your friend if you wish, and I’ll teach you whatever you don’t already know. However, that may not be much, because from what I’ve seen, you are both superb drivers.”
Both young men grinned. Fagan held out his hand. “Friends, then!”
By the time Davy shook it, Casey had approached and held out his hand. “Friends for life.”
“Without you guys, I’m pretty sure I would have died today.”

The CrimeLords' War by Liza O'Connor-- The Adventures of Xavier & Vic

Meet David, Vic’s brother in law

Vic met David Brown when they were roommates at Oxford, only David’s father lost the family fortune and David had to leave Oxford to make a living for his family. He became the finest dentist in London with advancements far beyond anyone else. He has an x-ray machine capable of finding cavities inside the tooth, electric drills capable of cutting out the decay, then filling the tooth with a special amalgamate that does not shrink and fall out in the winter.
But his knowledge goes far beyond dentistry. He is connected with inventors all of the world, but especially in Europe and America. So when Vic asks David to help her get Tubs up and walking he comes at once with his new-fangled arc wielder, ropes and counterweights to make it easier for Tubs to get up and move about.
David is the smartest fellow Vic has ever known and has been critical in solving many of their crimes.

Blurb
Chaos abounds in Late Victorian England. Xavier goes off on a mission without Vic because her protector, Tubs, is not well enough to keep Vic from harm right now. In fact, Tubs is dying and the doctor doesn’t expect him to live for more than a week. Upon discovering Tubs’ dire situation, Vic sets about rescuing him instead.

Good thing too. To all appearances the two strongest crime lords of London have declared war on each other. Only the two attempts on Vic’s life tells her this is all a clever plot by a third party—worse yet, a female villainess.

To stop the crime lords from destroying one another, leaving their territories open to the Russian spy, she must bring Seth and Samson together, share what is really going on, and get them to agree to work against this third party. Not an easy task since Seth Sojourn thinks Vic is nothing but a foolish sop. Unfortunately, Xavier has gone missing, so Vic must convince the crime lord that her plan is best.

Otherwise, this villainess will kill everyone who gets in her way and bring England to its knees.

Excerpt

David arrived at five with notebook and a cloth measuring tape.

He asked Tubs to raise his arms as he sat on the bed, then measured the distance from the palm of his hand to the thick ceiling beam overhead. He then looked at Vic. “I’d like to drill and place a hook into the beam. That way we can use various equipment on the same hook.”

“Do it,” Vic said as she smiled at Tubs.

David asked Tubs if he could stand.

“Not right now. My legs are pretty tired.”

Vic bragged, “He lifted little boys with his legs for nearly an hour.”

David chuckled. “I doubt I could do that for even a half hour. Good thing Vic found us such a tiny little angel girl to adopt.”

“How is little Maddy?”

David’s smile widened into pure joy. “She is perfection incarnate. Always smiling and happy, so patient with her mother’s constant fussing.”

Vic rolled her eyes. Her sister was always trying to put the world to perfection. No reason why a one-year-old child should be left to her own natural inclinations.

“Once Tubs is walking, we’ll come visit.”

David took further measurements of Tubs and then explained what he had in mind. “Once your legs are strong enough to carry you, I’ll have made you a device that will help you walk to the water closet on your own.”

“That sounds good,” Tubs said glancing at the door of the room where his wife continued to sleep.

“He’ll be strong enough tomorrow,” Vic said.

“Then I’ll weld it tonight.” David smiled. “I have recently acquired one of Coffin’s arc-welders from America. It’s a fabulous device which creates an electric arc that heats to three-thousand degrees. It not only melts the metal and bonds pieces together, but will deposit the filler metal exactly where you want.”

Vic patted David on his back. Her friend dearly loved American inventions.

“Just build it sturdy,” Vic said, hoping David remembered Tubs weighed four hundred pounds…or he did before he was shot three times in the chest.

David nodded and put up his notebook. “We’ll get you back to full strength, have no fear about that Mr. Tubs.”

Vic walked David to the front door, thanking him for making Tubs a priority.

“You don’t have to thank me. You given me my wife, my daughter, and my home. Anything you ask me to do will always be a priority.”

David gripped her hand. “We’ll get Mr. Tubs back to health. I know how important he is to you and England.”

To be honest she liked David a great deal more than she liked her sister.
